I have retitled it Mai Na Veidogo, the Fijian translation of the original. Mai Na Veidogo was initially intended as an autobiography, but I found that I was telling the inside story of the political and social evolution of Fiji as one of those at the heart of the process. This fascinating story is woven through the account of my own emergence from a humble family in a small village in the Rewa Delta to become administrator of a wide range of government projects and head of various government ministries, before entering politics and being elected to Cabinet.

Modern Politics and Government
Political sociology studies the relation between state and society, authority and power, and the methods used to formulate social policy. Diagram the three major traditional theoretical frameworks of political sociology, plus trends in contemporary sociology. Politics is the process by which groups of people make decisions. The term is generally applied to behavior within civil governments, but politics has been observed in all human group interactions, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions. It consists of social relations involving authority or power, the regulation of political units, and the methods and tactics used to formulate and apply social policy. Political sociology was traditionally concerned with how social trends, dynamics, and structures of domination affect formal political processes. It also explored how various social forces work together to change political policies.

John Locke, one of the most influential writers in history, profoundly affected the principles upon which the government of the United States was founded. He leaves a legacy of thoughts on human understanding, religion, economics, and politics that still influence the structure, environment, and operation of public administration today. He is most noted for his concept of separation of powers and for his ideas about property as the basis for prosperity. His politics, emerging from the concept of a state of nature, involved the underlying radical, modern premises about religion and morality. Locke presents his case for what we would call modern liberal democracy. He created the modern emphasis on constitutionalism that defines, in part, the relationship between the political system and the bureaucracy. Finally, he was an important link in the development of modern executive and legislative power.
The branch of social science that studies politics is referred to as political science. It may be used positively in the context of a "political solution" which is compromising and non-violent, or descriptively as "the art or science of government", but also often carries a negative connotation. A variety of methods are deployed in politics, which include promoting one's own political views among people, negotiation with other political subjects, making laws , and exercising force , including warfare against adversaries. In modern nation states , people often form political parties to represent their ideas. Members of a party often agree to take the same position on many issues and agree to support the same changes to law and the same leaders. An election is usually a competition between different parties. A political system is a framework which defines acceptable political methods within a society.

John Locke’s influence on American government and public administration
Although David Hume never produced a single comprehensive work that encapsulated his views on politics, his various writings address a broad range of topics of relevance to political philosophy. He critiques the social contract theory of Hobbes and Locke, and he offers an alternative, evolutionary account of the origins of government. However, he is willing to endorse efforts at gradual reform when these efforts do not threaten the stability of the society. His legacy for modern political philosophy remains contested. Keywords: Law , political theory , social contract , conservatism , liberalism , government , reform.
