Physicochemical Principles of Pharmacy

It shows how basic physicochemical principles are essential to an understanding of every aspect of drug action, from the design of dosage forms to the sites of action in the body. Chapters are organised logically, with visual representations to aid the understanding of difficult concepts. The fifth edition of this well-established textbook has been thoroughly revised.

Physical chemistry is the basis of pharmaceutical formulation and processing. This is fundamental to understanding the complexities of drug delivery and absorption.

The 13 chapters cover many of the basic topics of physical pharmacy including drug stability, solubility, drug interactions, and include a new chapter on pharmaceutical nanotechnology. In between, the clearly identified chapter headings and subsections make it easy to identify the individual concepts in the material, further supported by the inclusion of key points. The chapters include many figures and tables — the book contains a total of figures not including all the chemical structures and tables — along with generous numbers of relevant examples, schemes, and other informational boxes.

In addition, examples of clinical pharmaceutics are highlighted throughout each chapter in new clinical points. The book also offers a useful page index. A longer introductory chapter that more fully describes clinical pharmaceutics for students would have been welcome. This book helps provide pharmacy students a relevant introduction to physical chemistry.

Along with pharmacology and pharmaceutical chemistry, knowledge of basic physicochemical principles is critical to the foundation on which pharmacy practices are built. Your email address will not be published.
